Heather Kemkaran carries Olympic torch in Winnipeg

(January 4, 2010) – Winnipeg’s Heather Kemkaran lit up the figure skating ice in the late 1970s.  Coached by the legendary Ellen Burka, she went to her first Canadian championships in 1975, and finished seventh.  In 1978 she won her first of two Canadian titles, repeating again in 1980.  Her Olympic dream was fulfilled when she competed at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympic Games where she finished fifteenth.  She retired from skating in 1980 and will proudly carry the Olympic torch on January 5th in her hometown of Winnipeg.
