Dreams on the line in London at BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships!
(January 12, 2010 - OTTAWA, ON) – Over 90 competitive skaters will hit the ice in London, Ontario for the 2010 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships. The event runs January 14-17, 2010 at the John Labatt Centre.
“The 2010 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships are always one of the most important events of the year for every Canadian skater and this year that statement could not be truer,” said William Thompson, Skate Canada CEO. “Athletes are not only competing for spots on the world and four continents teams but also the Olympic team. Eight of these performances will be previews of what we will see at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Fans in London are in for a special treat as they get to witness a little bit of history.”

All four reigning Canadian Champions are set to defend their titles. In singles competition, Patrick Chan, 19, Toronto, Ont., will look to secure his third men’s title. In women’s, Joannie Rochette, 23, Île-Dupas, Que., will be looking to capture an impressive sixth straight Canadian title. In pair Jessica Dubé, 21, St-Cyrille-de-Wendover, Que., and Bryce Davison, 23, Huntsville, Ont., are hoping to stay on top after taking back the title in 2009. Ice dancers, Tessa Virtue, 20, London, Ont., and Scott Moir, 22, Ilderton, Ont., are going for a third Canadian title.
Opening Press Conference
An opening press conference will be held at the John Labatt Centre on Thursday, January 14, 2010 in the media centre at 11:00 a.m. Skate Canada CEO William Thompson, Skate Canada High Performance Director Mike Slipchuk, and 2008 World Champion Jeff Buttle will be available, along with Skate Canada’s men’s medalists from 2009, Patrick Chan, Vaughn Chipeur and Jeremy Ten.
Canada’s best senior skaters in the men’s, women’s, pair and ice dance events are also competing for spots on the Canadian teams that will compete at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, 2010 ISU World Figure Skating Championships, and the 2010 ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships.
